Nobel Laureate David Baker, Ph.D., Director of the Institute for Protein Design at the University of Washington, will deliver a keynote address at the 10th annual Mutational Scanning Symposium next June in Seattle.
He was awarded the shared 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on computational protein design.
“We are delighted to have Dr. Baker giving a keynote address, especially given the strong synergy between large-scale experiments and protein design,” said BBI’s Doug Fowler, Ph.D., Co-Chair of the Executive Committee of the Atlas of Variant Effects (AVE) Alliance. “His work with protein design and AI has garnered attention globally, and in his acceptance speech for the Nobel Prize, he noted, 'Exploring the unknown and encountering the unexpected are among the delights of doing science.' We could not agree more!”
In addition to Baker, the symposium will include two additional keynote speakers:

Jay Shendure, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of Genome Sciences at the University of Washington; Lead Scientific Director, Seattle Hub for Synthetic Biology; and Scientific Director of the Brotman Baty Institute.

Britt Adamson, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Molecular Biology at the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics at Princeton University.

The annual Mutational Scanning Symposium, hosted by the AVE Alliance, is returning to its roots for its 10th anniversary. It is set for June 23 – 25, 2027 in Seattle, Washington, the same city where the first symposium was held in 2017.
