BBI’s Dr. Evan Eichler, a professor in the Department of Genome Sciences at UW Medicine and investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, is a leading author on a paper mapping for the first time the complete human genome.

“I think our view of how humans differ from each other is going to be transformed, and how more complex genetic variation is important not only for making us human, but also making us different,” he said. “This is not the end. Even though people would say, ‘Well, we’re done with finishing the genome.’ We finished a genome. There will be hundreds, probably thousands of genomes, over the next few years.”

Authors on the paper, published March 31 in the journal Science, include BBI’s Dr. Danny Miller, a clinical fellow in Eichler’s lab and a pediatrics and medical genetics resident at Seattle Children’s Hospital.
